Event magnitudes in legend disappearing

Initially when the page loads, the magnitude scale is correct and zooming will not affect the legend. However, when one reloads the page, the magnitude scale will disappear until changes to the URL are made.

Ex: zooming to another extent, changing the sort order of events in list, clicking on an event and changing the currentFeatureId, etc.
