2023 NSHM: Updated polygons and basin data for Bay Area and Los Angeles

For the 2023 NSHM for CONUS:

Bay Area Basin

  • Brad Aagaard proposed a new San Francisco Bay Area basin polygon, which extends the old polygon offshore to avoid an artificial boundary in the west. He provided a new polygon (attached geojson file) and Zx values (attached .csv file). The Zx values come from Brad's updated model for the Bay Area.Bay_Area_Aagaard_email.pdf

Los Angeles Basin

  • Brad Aagaard proposed a new Los Angeles basin polygon, which eliminates regions with artificially shallow basin depths. He provided a new polygon (attached geojson file) and Zx values (attached .csv file). The Zx values come from the SCEC CVM-S4.26m01 model, as before, and he expects the values to be within 10km of the values used previously. Los_Angeles_Aagaard_email.pdf
