Obstacles to enterprise deployment
Email sent to TRiVIAinfo@usgs.gov on 2/2/2023 from Tom Van Heel tvanheel@usgs.gov:
In its current form, I would be unable to make an MECM application for TRiVIA. These are the things that would need to be resolved before I could support an enterprise deployment (in descending order of importance):
- Ss far as I've been able to tell, Trivia+MCRinstaller.exe does not support silent installation. I tried /s, /silent, and /q, and they all responded with "Installation Failed." in the command prompt. If I can't silently install something, I can't make an MECM application out of it.
- Neither the installer nor the TriVIA.exe file are digitally signed.
- The File Version, Product Name, and Product Version are missing from the installer exe, and the Product name is missing from trivia.exe.
- It's not ideal that it relies on Matlab Runtime, but I doubt anything can be done about that at this point.
If/when I make an MECM app for a future version of Trivia, I would make the dependent Matlab version be its own application and make it a dependency of the Trivia apps. That would save a lot of bandwidth for upgrades.
Here are some screenshots of another USGS software that we recently made an MECM app for.
