The comments marked Required must be addressed with changes to the manuscript (and supplementary information file) to meet USGS Fundamental Science Practices. Must-have
* - [x] Please note: the associated interpretive information product should be mentioned somewhere on the website (sometimes its in the footer or a separate info tab or could be added to the FAQs).
* Comment on "What are the limitations of this tool?" FAQ
* - [x] Please rephrase the last part of the sentence here. Expressing something as "need" can be perceived as lobbying for additional funds to continue work. Please consider my suggested edit below, or reword yourself to maintain scientific intent and interpretation:
"Continued model development can benefit from additional inputs, as this model incorporates limited data on subsurface storage, flow modifications including reservoir releases, diversions and withdrawals. In addition, there are difficulties in capturing sub-seasonal transitions between streamflow drought and flood conditions."
Nice-to-have
* - [ ] [https://dashboard.waterdata.usgs.gov/app/nwd/en/](https://dashboard.waterdata.usgs.gov/app/nwd/en/) The National Water dashboard includes a statement at the bottom indicating federal data sources (refer to bottom blue bar). Consider adding in this statement
* Comment on Highly regulated site dialog
* - [x] Suggest changing to "evaluating" (rather than looking at)
* - [x] Suggest removing "we" statements; please consider my suggested edit here: "Streamflow drought in areas with a high degree of flow regulation is dependent on historical patterns...... Reservoirs likely have similar operations to those that occurred during the 1981-2020 observed record.
* _Note: language also in special considerations FAQ_
* Comment on non-perennial site dialog
* - [x] Suggest removing "we". Consider something such as: "While the model uses a method that considers..."
* _Note: language also in special considerations FAQ_
* Comment on "How well does the model forecast streamflow drought?" FAQ
* - [x] Please revise "useful" to just "streamflow"
* - [x] Generally "more accurate" rather than "better"?
* - [x] Please ensure that you reference the associated interpretive information product. Could that be placed here?
* Comment on "Why do model predictions rarely exceed 30th percentile streamflow?"
* - [x] The use of the term "good" can be subjective. Would something like "This produces a trained model that sufficiently predicts the occurrence and severity of streamflow drought." work?
* Comment on "How reliable are the long-term forecasts?" AND elsewhere
* - [x] Suggest changing instances of "see" to "refer to"
* Comment on "What are the limitations of this tool?" FAQ
* - [x] Please consider revising this to "...and using interpretations on forecasts for 1-4 weeks may be more beneficial." (rather than suggest using interpretations..). Or something to the effect that they may be more accurate.
* - [x] "...which may overrepresent the prevalence of streamflow drought.."
* Comment on "Are there special considerations...?" FAQ
* - [x] Please consider revising to " We highlight four categories of sites where there may be additional considerations for interpreting streamflow drought forecasts: ...." Is this described in the associated interpretive information product? The paper could then be referenced here.
* - [x] Revise to "..and evaluating the total reservoir storage in a watershed or basin can provide more information to models."
* - [x] Suggest removing "we" statements; please consider my suggested edit here: "Streamflow drought in areas with a high degree of flow regulation is dependent on historical patterns...... Reservoirs likely have similar operations to those that occurred during the 1981-2020 observed record."
* - [x] Suggest removing "finally" and just keeping it in parallel with our statements: "For ice-impacted sites, streamflow may be impacted..."
* _Note: language also in hydrologic icon dialogs_
* Comment on "What period of record...?" FAQ
* - [x] "Refer to"; please refer to earlier comment to change instances of "see" to "refer to"
* Comment on "What does it mean if observed condition...?" FAQ
* - [x] Suggest revising to: "These data may be missing because the streamgage is out of commission, there is an issue receiving data from the streamgage, or the release of the data has been delayed to perform additional quality assurance/quality control checks."
* Comment on "How do I read the..." FAQ
* - [x] Suggest changing "In other words" to "This means that.."
* _Note: language also in graph explainer dialog_
