Problems saving settings when installing to home screen
Reported via email:
I consider myself pretty tech savvy, but I'm completely not understanding what you're trying to suggest.
The first issue that I think I may not have mentioned is that I'm using the Chrome browser on my Android phone... I used to be able to "bookmark to home screen" and that was just fine. Now I don't have that option, and I'm forced to install an app.
Here is the URL and that I copied directly from Chrome. (It's supposed to be 8 zooms out from the building I live in, at 88 Howard St, but it's not if you zoom back in. I don't really care that much about that, as long as it's showing me the area around San Francisco).
If I copy and paste that into Chrome (with all other tabs already closed) This seems to work.
I can also paste this link into the Google Assistant search bar, and it will ask if I want to open it with Chrome or with the Earthquakes app. When I open it using Chrome I've got the right URL and it's exactly what I want!
Each time I open the app, the attached image is the first thing that shows.
So I deleted the app.
Go back into Chrome with this URL which appears to be perfectly what I want to see every time I open the app.
Tap the three dots in the upper right hand corner
Tap install app in the menu drop down
It asks if I want to install the app which I do.
Then, when I go to open the new app that I just installed, I again get the earthquake list in the same exact image attached.
In the app, I change all my view choices and settings, and there's no option to save. If I close the app, it doesn't save. What you're saying is that it should stay exactly where it was last? It doesn't remember the last location in the app.
I flip back and forth between other open apps, and yes it stays on the same map view. But if I close the Earthquakes app, It doesn't save The last location and all the settings in the memory of the app. It's back to the earthquake list and the map is US grayscale view.
I go back into the settings, change everything again, go to the settings screen scroll all the way down to the bottom where I think it should actually save my view, and all it does is give me the option to copy the bookmark... And here's the bookmark that it copies:. https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/?extent=36.04022,-123.51929&extent=39.4998,-121.2561&range=week&listOnlyShown=true&showUSFaults=true&baseLayer=terrain&list=false&settings=true&map=false
The view and that URL is obviously going to be the settings screen because I was at the bottom of the setting screen when I tapped on that option to share settings! (So what's the point? Why would I want to be sharing this?)
