Test patch1

Tried testing with all jobs parameters eliminated such that it uses the default value. That broke the code. Fixed it so that not setting jobs in any of the functions works. I started down this road because some of the tests were bogging down in the gitlab runner and they seemed to be associated with the parallel and dask tests, which all run fine locally. Hoping this will fix that.
